In 1767, James Hargreaves invented the first spinning jenny, with which the spinseter could spin ten separate threads at once. He was however driven from Blackburn, his native town , by his neighbours, who smashed up his machine believing it would drive them out of employment. In 1769 Sir Richard Arkwright, patented his cotton spinning frame and established factories at Cromford. H was the first to employ machinery on a large scale for textile manufacturers. Show more
