We've just received a used OVALTONE/OVALIZED SCREAMER 808ts! OVALIZED SCREAMER 808ts This 808 MOD is the result of a collaboration between Susumu Tamura, the developer of the origi nal TS overdrive pedal, and Ovaltone. This modification shines a spotlight on the “secret” op-amp that Mr. Tamura almost always incorporates into his TS-type collaborations, and has been tuned according to Ovaltone’s interpretation to maximize the characteristics of that op-amp. The result is a sound rich in harmonics with a defined edge, a tight yet resonant low end, and a presence-filled midrange—all combined to deliver expressive dynamics that render subtle nuances of volume and intensity with great detail. Additionally, since the volume level is slightly higher than the standard version, I believe it’s easier to control. While the modifications to the OVALIZED SCREAMER Series (models 9 and 10) were designed to upgrade the units without straying too far from their original sound character, this 808ts model—though its surface-level sound appears to retain the original character—now offers a response to the input performance and a sense of spatial depth that are quite different from the current standard version. I’ve named this model “OVALIZED SCREAMER 808ts,” using the “T” and “S” from Susumu Tamura’s name.
