In 1905, Paul Doullut, a steamboat captain, constructed a house facing the Mississippi in what is now known as the Ninth Ward Holy Cross neighborhood. In 1913, Capt. Doullut and hi s son built an identical house in 1913 for his son, who was also a steamboat captain, as was Capt. Paul's wife. The houses were built to look like steamboats, including making the chimneys look like smokestacks.
