The image on this magnet is taken from a war poster designed in 1943 by David Stone Martin for the Office of War Information. The poster depicts Mess Attendant Second Class Doris " Dorie" Miller, USS West Virginia, who was awarded the Navy Cross for his heroism during the December 7, 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor.
