The information has been arranged according to four major parts: A general history of the county, a history of the city of Portland, a history of each of the towns in the county, a nd biographical sketches. The biographical sketches are usually rich with information such as the subject's date and place of birth, parents' names, military involvement, occupation and education, political activity, marital status, number and names of children and their dates of births, marriages, deaths, etc. The book is presented as graphic images, so the user sees the work just as it was originally published. It is intended to look and function very much like a "real" book. There is no electronic index, and there is no electronic text to search. However, numerous electronic bookmarks have been added which make it easy to move through the book. Image numbers will match the page numbers for all of the main text, as well as the index.
