"The Administration was authorized to control the operation, purchase, charter, requisition, and use of all ocean-going vessels under the flag or control of the United States excep t combat vessels, auxiliaries, and transports of the armed services." The War Shipping Administrator was also the Chairman of the Maritime Commission. "This is a preliminary inventory of the materials in Record Group 248, Records of the War Shipping Administration. The records of the WSA transferred to the National Archives before January 1, 1951, are described and listed in this inventory.
