Now that these vital records have been compiled into a single source, Medway researchers can have this information at their fingertips. The present Medway, Massachusetts, included, until 1885, what is now the town of Millis, then known as East Medway. In 1905, the New England Historic Genealogical Society published births, marriages, and deaths to 1850, in Medway Vital Records. Many of Medway's early settlers came from, or were direct descendants of Dedham, Massachusetts families. These included pioneer names such as Adams, Bullard, Clark, Fairbanks, Harding, Richardson, and others. Descendants of these early settlers remained in Medway well into the 1850?1900 period; and, in addition, Medway?s industrial activity of that time gave employment to workers from Maine and New Hampshire who are also recorded in this book. The data in this book are essentially complete, giving parents names and mothers maiden names for births, husband?s and wife's parents for marriages, as well as the wife's maiden name. In the death records, date of death, age at death, father's first and mother?s first and maiden names of the deceased again offer a complete record for research. In addition, many of the death records include place of birth, widow, wife of, etc. The book contains nearly 7,000 entries, all alphabetized. An index locates surnames buried within the text. The author is the town historian of Medway, served as the town clerk for eighteen years, and has authored several magazine and newspaper articles on historical subjects as well as a history of Medway.
