James Dowd found and carefully retyped Frances Howe's original text, adding an introduction, appendix, footnotes, index and a new genealogy. the first chapter is dedicated to the a uthor's grandmother, Marie Lefevre, who was born in 173 in the French settlement known as Riviere des Raisins, on the site of present-day Monroe, Michigan.
