This work lists vital record information from the Queens County Sentinel, which began publication as a weekly newspaper in June 1858, with offices in Hempstead, New York. "When Queens County was incorporated into Greater New York in January 1898, part of the county separated. On January 1, 1899, the separated portion was renamed Nassau County. At some time after that date the paper changed its name to the Hempstead Sentinel. The last edition of the Queens County Sentinel available on microfilm is dated May 26, 1898; the first available issue of the Hempstead Sentinel is dated June 1, 1899. There is no record of what happened to the paper between those dates." The reports of births are listed by last name, and include the parents' names and the date of the event, when known, as well as the date of the newspaper in which the announcement appeared.
