This volume is the eleventh in a series devoted to presenting a transcription of the surviving serial manuscript records for the town of Wilmington, Essex County, New York, in the High Peaks region of the Adirondack Mountains. This volume of transcribed Wilmington tax records includes 1871 and 1875-1890. Resident landowners and renters are included, and for each the following are recorded: number of acres, value of real estate, value of personal property (this is often left blank), total valuation, and total tax. Non-resident land owners and renters were also taxed, but they are not listed by name. In some cases, those who do not own or rent land are also listed. In 1876, Hiram Dergan had no taxable property, but was taxed for owning a dog. Those who have not paid their taxes are listed separately. A dog tax was also assessed and recorded. For most years, an end-of-year Town Supervisor's report (sometimes a newspaper clipping) is appended. It contains valuable information, as all town offices and officers are listed. In some cases the year-end report includes not just officers and amounts paid them, but others who were paid by the Town for services provided. Occasionally, comments are added which could prove useful or add a bit of "color" to your family portrait. The tax records have been transcribed as presented. All names have been reproduced as spelled in the original. A full name index adds to the value of this work. Harold E.
