The depositions contained in this book were gleaned from 1775 to 1835 for those who gave sworn statements in cases of land boundary disputes, naturalizations, equity court and some Revolutionary War military service from original records located in the Court Records Department and the Archives Department of the Historical Society of Harford County, as well as original county land records found on-line at the Maryland State Archives. Depositions are very important tools for genealogical and historical research. Early depositions were usually quite brief. Most were a couple of sentences or a paragraph or two, unlike those taken today which could be hundreds of pages.
