The experiences and observations of Rev. Todd were originally published in his hometown weekly paper, "The Tabor Beacon," in 1891. Tabor was a prominent participant in the Undergro und Railroad and conflict with pro-slavery Missouri is related in numerous incidents, ranging from bogus pro-slavery legislature to destruction of buildings and murder.
