Schantz's "The Domestic Life and Characteristics of the Pennsylvania-German Pioneer: A narrative and critical history…" (1900), which supplements and complements Rush's work. Topics covered in this work include: early settlement in Pennsylvania, domestic economy, agriculture, wearing apparel, religion, care of children (including Christopher Dock's rules for children!), servants, hospitality, and the elderly.
