Lucius Ferraris was an 18th-century canonist of the Franciscan order who lived in Italy and died sometime before 1763. The first edition of this encyclopedia of religious knowledge , perhaps the first Catholic encyclopedia, was published in Bologna in 1746. The "handy library" as its title translates, consists of alphabetical Latin listings in double columns. A popular work, it was reprinted well into the late 19th century. Show more
