Thomas Chatterton, creator of pseudo-medieval poetry, used "Thomas Rowley" as his pseudonym. Editor Thomas Tyrwhitt, a Chaucerian scholar, seems to have at first believed the poems to be genuine medieval works but eventually realized they were Chatterton's.
