The memoirs of a world-record-holding elephant hunter. Besides describing the hunt, Sutherland meets man-eating lions, snakes, hippos, leopards, African natives, slave girls, etc. The author does not recommend elephant meat, being "coarse-fibred and without any flavour" but finds the trunk "by far the most palatable portion of the elephant."
