One of the most important references for North Carolina genealogical research is the multi-volume "Hathaway's Register", first published in 1900-1903. Unfortunately, like so many o f the books of the time, its lack of an index precludes its effective utilization by genealogists. David Hamrick has provided in these three volumes a full and concise index to the "Register", including both married and maiden names whenever given.
