Crafted in solid 950 silver (Minerva 1st standard), this elegant small-scale coffee pot exemplifies the Belle Époque taste for 18th-century revival forms. The body is adorned with delicate fluting and rocaille ornamentation to the upper section and lid. It stands on three graceful cabriole legs and features a finely shaped leaf-form spout. The lid is crowned with a shell and foliate finial, characteristic of Louis XV decorative vocabulary. The ebony handle provides both insulation and a refined visual contrast to the luminous silver surface. Although inspired by the traditional 18th-century chocolate pot form, this example does not include an aperture for a stirring rod (moulin), and is therefore correctly identified as a coffee pot in chocolate pot form. A charming cabinet-size piece, ideal for one to two demitasse servings, and beautifully proportioned for display on a silver tray with matching cups.
