This lesson on NUMBERS 11-20 uses a Montessori lesson approach, and is best done in small groups of 4-6 students. This lesson helps learners not only to acquire new vocabulary, but to analyze the language as they identify patterns that exist in the names of the numbers. A little bit about the scaffolding of these lessons: The Numbers 11-20 lesson should follow the Numbers 0-10 lesson. It should come before the other vocabulary and parts of speech lessons. The Greetings and Farewells lesson is the FIRST lesson in this scaffolded series, followed by numbers and colors (though colors can be taught anytime before the parts of speech lessons). You will see that the first part of the video is directed at you, letting you know how to prepare. The actual mini-lesson is organized in parts: Intro discussion Presentation of content Practice options Mastery track Reflection The lesson practice times and reflection can be spread out over several sessions, as needed. I recommend spending multiple lesson slots on each topic, so that learners have ample time to do their practice work and their Mastery Track activities. Perhaps one lesson a week is a good rule of thumb, and no more than two.
