Robert Ainsworth was master of 'a considerable boarding-school' but gave that up after acquiring a moderate fortune. About 1714, a proposal was made to some of the leading London b ooksellers to compete a new English and Latin Dictionary. Ainsworth was engaged to carry out the work but needed assistance due to his advanced age and an eye disorder.
