First edition of this uncommon and well-illustrated work by the Scottish minister and amateur astronomer James Baikie (1866-1924).Baikie studied at the University of Edinburgh, where he 'developed a keen interest in astronomy, and during his ministry at Ancrum he devoted a great deal of time to its study. He observed systematically and made many drawings of the planets, chiefly Jupiter' (Royal Astronomical Society obituary).
