The term "Southside Virginia" is used in these two volumes to include the counties of Amelia, Appomattox, Bedford, Brunswick, Campbell, Charlotte, Dinwiddie, Franklin, Greenville, Halifax, Henry, Lunenburg, Mecklenburg, Nottoway, Patrick, Pittsylvania, Prince Edward, Prince George, and Sussex, Virginia. These counties contributed heavily to the settlement of North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee and Kentucky.
