Invented by Perry Davis in 1840 and patented in 1845, his Pain-Killer was probably the first nationally-advertised American remedy for pain. Widely regarded as the wonder drug of i ts day, it contained mainly opiates and ethyl alcohol. This advertising booklet advertises the drug on every page but also lists famous bulls, cows, and horses, perhaps to appeal to farmers. Show more
