Producer Dukes has cemented itself as one of the go-to producers in Great Southern, in particular, Dukes Magpie Hill Riesling is one of the best in the country, even winning the Halliday 'Wine of the Year' in 2019. The winery has been running since 1999; however, recently, it has changed hands; Duke and Hilde Ranson, the previous owners, decided to retire in 2022, and Ben Cane and Sarah Date purchased the vineyard. Ben and Sarah plan to continue focusing on the health of the land and the vines above all else and taking a minimal intervention approach in the winery, which will no doubt continue the legacy of outstanding wines. Tasting Note 2022 was a cooler vintage, but this wine still manages to give power, tension, and electric acidity. It has beautiful notes of sweet lemon and lime curd, minerality, and cucumber and green melon, adding some freshness. The finish is long and moreish. This wine has a lot to give for years to come.
