Lower the deck and relieve belt tension from the deck idler arm before removing the old pulley. Inspect the idler arm bushing – the arm should pivot freely without excessive play. Replace worn arms or bushings. Install the new pulley kit in the same orientation as removed. Make sure any spacer(s) and washers are installed in the correct order. Torque the pulley fastener to the specification in the Hustler service manual (typically in the 30–45 ft-lb range for 3/8"–7/16" hardware – always follow the spec for your model). After installing, route the deck belt per the decal or manual and confirm the belt is tracking correctly on all pulleys. Spin the pulley by hand and check for noise, wobble or belt rub before starting the mower. Test run the deck at low throttle first and recheck torque and belt tracking.
