Title continues: "For Conspiring The Death of the King, And raising a Rebellion in this Kingdom: At the Sessions-House in the Old-Baily London, on a Commission of Oyer and Terminer held there for the City of London and County of Middlesex, on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, July 12, 13, and 14. 1683." The defendants were found guilty of conspiring to kill Charles II and his brother, the Duke of York, in the "Rye House Plot." While some of the defendants were likely guilty, Russell's guilt is in doubt and he is remembered as a Whig martyr. On rear of title, Will Prichard, Mayor of the City of London, appoints Royston, Took and Mearn (and no one else) to publish.
