Need a 12x20x1 that actually fits your return? This Aerostar comes in at 11 1/2" x 19 1/2" x 3/4", matching the real opening in most furnace and air handler returns where a nominal 12x20x1 is specified. The half-inch undersize on each dimension is industry standard and keeps the filter from wedging in the grille track. Three MERV options let you match the filter to what your household actually needs. MERV 8 covers basic dust, pollen, and lint at the lowest static pressure. MERV 11 captures pet dander, smoke residue, and finer allergens. MERV 13 takes care of wildfire smoke, bacterial particles, and the sub-micron range. The construction is pleated electrostatic media in a cardboard frame, manufactured by Con-Air Industries in Orlando. The electrostatic charge gives the filter a measurable advantage at catching particles smaller than the physical weave would otherwise stop. Pleated media holds substantially more debris than flat panel filters, so a single 12x20x1 Aerostar typically lasts 60 to 90 days in a household running standard MERV 8 or 11 grades. Higher MERV 13 grades clog faster and want a change closer to every 30 to 60 days under similar conditions.
