Intro by Harriett Gilbert. Harriet and Sophia Lee began publishing their Canterbury Tales in 1797. Their stories eventually ran to five volumes and were praised by critics and auth ors, including Lord Byron. This volume contains a selection of six of the best of their stories, tales of revolution, murder, war, illegitimacy, history and ethical debate.
