This book, originally published in 1726, was the starting point of Monro's career and remained the standard on the subject for 50 years. Aside from his brilliant teaching, in Engli sh instead of the conventional Latin, Monro's main contribution to medical knowledge was this volume, mainly about bones. The book is unillustrated, since it was intended to complement his demonstrations on human anatomy begun in 1720 at Surgeons' Hall in Edinburgh Medical School. Munro petitioned Edinburgh town council in 1725 for a more secure teaching location after accusations of grave robbing by he and his students led to rioting by the locals. His request was successful and the University of Edinburgh formally inaugurated him as a lecturer in November of that year.
