When speaking of traditional Japanese clothing, the kimono naturally comes to mind. Yet Japan has long embraced garments rooted in daily life—such as noragi worn for work or jinbei for relaxed moments at home. This collection draws inspiration from the attire of the women of Ohara, Kyoto, who once carried local specialties on their heads as they walked into the city to sell them. Though their garments were simple workwear, they embodied a quiet beauty—designed with practicality, grace, and thoughtful detail unique to women’s labor attire.Honoring this spirit, the OHARAME KIMONO JACKET reinterprets these roots for modern life. Designed for everyday wear, it pairs effortlessly with casual styles or office attire, bringing timeless Japanese elements into a contemporary silhouette. It offers a vision of traditional clothing that transcends borders, gender, and age—allowing each wearer to express their individuality freely. Craftsmanship This piece is entirely made in Japan. The fabric was specially developed for this collection and is not available on the general market. It was created in collaboration with Toushou Inomata, a historic textile producer founded in 1896 in Yonezawa, Yamagata Prefecture, renowned for its traditional Yonezawa-ori weaving. The fabric is produced using saki-zome (pre-dyeing), a meticulous technique in which threads are dyed before weaving. Unlike printed textiles, this method creates depth, richness, and subtle gradation—hallmarks of authentic kimono craftsmanship. The embroidery is created by a workshop located in the snow-rich town of Asahi in Yamagata Prefecture. The words “Love and Peace,” rendered in three-dimensional embroidery, carry a quiet yet powerful message. Tailoring is entrusted to Otozuki Shouten, a long-established factory also based in Yonezawa. Originally specializing in traditional kimono outerwear, the atelier now applies its time-honored expertise to Western-style garments, ensuring a silhouette that enhances the beauty of the wearer. FabricThis jacket is crafted from a breathable silk-blend fabric proposed by a traditional kimono textile producer. The material features a uniquely Japanese stripe pattern known as "Yoroke," meticulously woven from the yarn.
