English physician Thomas Sydenham (1624 – 89) was the author of Observationes Medicae which became a standard textbook of medicine for two centuries. Known as 'The English Hippocrates,' Sydenham's many achievements included the discovery of Sydenham's chorea, also known as St Vitus' Dance.
