Eric Gill (1882-1940) was a Christian artist who, during the '20s and '30s, was a well-known figure in British art and intel­lectual circles. Gill moved in 1924 with his friend the poet David Jones to an Anglican monastery in Capel-y-finen, Wales where he wrote many essays on the subjects of Christianity and art.
