Producer Julian Langworthy is regarded as one of Australia's best winemakers, boasting an in-depth knowledge and wealth of experience with Margaret River Cabernet in particular. His day job is Head Winemaker and General Manager of Deep Woods Estate, which he has steered from strength to strength, even winning the 2016 Jimmy Watson Trophy with Deep Woods Reserve Cabernet and 2019 James Halliday Wine Maker of the Year. Nocturne is his own label and passion project. With keen insight into the best pockets of land to grow grapes in Margeret River, Julian had set out to secure some of the best fruit in the region to produce his own label. He makes an estate label, Chardonnay, Cabernet blend, and Rose, which are multi-regional expressions, and a single vineyard, Chardonnay, and Cabernet Sauvignon. Tasting Note This Cabernet is made with fruit from the Sheaok Vineyard. Although it has a dark, brooding and nuanced flavour profile, it still falls into the medium-bodied category. It has a silky texture and noticeable but ripe tannins. Aromas of cassis, warm spice, and menthol, along with flavours of blackberry and olive tapenade, fill the glass. It has bright acidity and a long finish. It's a beautifully balanced wine, but it would be interesting to see how it develops with some age.
