The half-inch undersize on each axis is w hat allows the filter to slide into the grille track without wedging. Three MERV options cover the residential range. MERV 8 is the standard household choice, catching dust, pollen, and lint at the lowest static pressure. MERV 11 picks up where MERV 8 leaves off, handling pet dander, smoke, and most common allergens. MERV 13 captures fine particulates including bacteria, smoke from wildfires, and virus-carrying droplets - pick this grade if anyone in the home has respiratory issues or if smoke events are a regular concern. Pleated electrostatic synthetic media handles the work. The pleats provide the surface area to extend service life; the electrostatic charge improves capture of sub-micron particles. Manufactured by Con-Air Industries at their Orlando, Florida facility. Service life is 60 to 90 days for MERV 8 and 11 in typical residential use.
