This is an antique Meji period Satsuma cup and saucer made by Kizan around 1900 in Japan for the export market. The cup measures just under 2.18 inches high and the saucer is 4.75 inches in diameter. The design is an all hand painted and highly detailed one of flowering bamboo with lots of delicate gold accents and trim. The mark is gold on red. The cup and saucer are in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restorations and no gold loss and is of exceptional workmanship. The color is a bit more cream than shows in the photos, and there is a very fine, all over crazing which is normal for these pieces by this manufacturer. Absolutely lovely. Show more
