Producer Ceres Bridge Estate was established in 1996 when Challon and Patricia moved from Western Australia to Geelong and purchased a 6-hectare property in Stonehaven, 9 km west of the centre of Geelong. They decided to fulfil their aspirations of growing grapes and making wine and began planting their vineyard with Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Nebbiolo, Sauvignon Blanc, and a little Viognier. In the early stages, the fruit was taken to Tarcoola in Lethbridge to be made. In 2005, Challon and Patricia added their personal touch to the process when they built the winery and began making it themselves under their own label, Ceres Bridge. The label is 'boutique' in nature, producing only a small amount of wine with an emphasis on quality. While drawing inspiration from Burgundy, the Rhone Valley, and Barolo, they make sure to stay true to their local terroir. After 10 years of making the wine, in 2016, Challon and Patricia decided to pass on the baton to The Melbourne Wine Company to manage the vineyard and produce the wine at their facility in Fyansford, Papermill. Since then, the vineyard has been converted to organic farming practices; along with further age of the vines, the vineyard has hit its stride, producing exceptional fruit and delicious wines. All things are looking up for Ceres Bridge. Tasting Note It opens with white orchard fruit like pear and apple, some florals, and vanilla oak. The palate is uplifting, with flavours of citrus peel, lemon juice, and pink grapefruit leading to a rounded finish. It is a generous and focused wine that will appeal to all Chardonnay lovers.
