It possesses the allure of nuanced shades that can convey both strength and elegance. During the Kamakura period, warriors adopted the practice of wearing a type of indigo called "kachiiro" beneath their armor. Indigo was believed to have anti-inflammatory, detoxifying, and hemostatic properties. The connection between "kachi" (victory) and indigo led to its auspicious symbolism. Its effectiveness in repelling insects and snakes made it invaluable in mountain and agricultural contexts, as well as in bridal kimonos and bedding. Its excellent heat retention and minimal skin irritation also make it an excellent choice for baby clothing.[Tsumami Dyeing]"Tsumami-zome" is a technique where selected parts of a white pattern are hand-dyed.
