Volume 1 and Volume 2, the Letters, are bound together. Volume 3, the Memoir and explanation of the lawsuit, is not included. Robert Charles Dallas was a poet and friend of Byron in the period 1809 through 1811. Byron gave him these letters and some valuable copyrights while they were friends. Dallas used these items and his own correspondence with Byron to construct an account of this period of Byron's life to be published after Byron's death. Dallas was challenged by Augusta Leigh after Byron's death, as she had other deals in line to write her half-brother's biography. Dallas died soon afterwards and his work was published in France, out of reach of the British court, in 1825. Contemporary binding in 3/4 pebbled calf. Cover is split on the front hinge.
