Victorian popular media kept alive the works and lives of Romantic era writers. Mole shows how reputations of Lord Byron, Felicia Hemans, Walter Scott, Percy Bysshe Shelley, and Wi lliam Wordsworth were sustained and transformed through material culture. Illustrated books, statues, incorporation into sermons by preachers, postcards, photographs, collectibles, and new anthologies all helped create a new national pantheon from Romantic authors. Naturally, the dead writers were recruited to address current concerns, reimagined for new audiences. The process continues.
