Founded in 1948, the mill continues to produce one of J apan's most representative yarn-dyed textiles. The fabric is known for its soft, handwoven-like texture. Because many of the processes are done manually, production involves more than thirty steps and requires two to four months to complete. It is also known as itagatsuri.Chijimi weaving divides the warp yarns into two groups and applies different tensions during weaving. This creates subtle unevenness on the fabric surface. The texture prevents the cloth from clinging to the skin, allowing air to flow between fabric and body. For this reason, it has long been used as a favored summer textile.Also known as"Yukinko Kasuri," this pattern was traditionally woven using handwoven indigo-dyed warp and weft kasuri. Arare refers to finely spaced, small motifs. Unlike printed patterns, kasuri created through the tying-and-dyeing technique results in slight differences in the size of each small motif, even when designed at equal intervals. These natural irregularities, combined with the overall harmony of the layout, give the pattern its charm.
