This is an academic examination of the television serial based on classic literature, especially the BBC serials. The author looks at the sociological, economic and artistic backgr ound of the development of this television genre. She also looks deeply at how the serial is different from the novel based on semiotic theories, and specifically at Emma in terms of novel versus TV series.
