Antonio Botti Bass Violin 3/4 Size, Gamba-shaped, Roundback Made in Sassuolo, Italy c. 1852 Top table is a four-piece plate of spruce with vertical and slab graining Back table is a two-piece plate of highly figured maple Ribs of burled poplar Original scroll of plain grained poplar with a highly figured maple neck graft Original individual brass gears of Tyrolean type with a pearl dot centered in each gear Varnish is brownish amber This bass was pictured with the late pedagog Fredrick Zimmermann in the preface of the Simandl Bass Method book.
