Kym Mullen Gouache on paper, unframed 31 x 41 cm 2026 I first met Kim Mullen when we were both finalists in the Lethbridge Landscape Art Prize last year, and I’ve admired her work ever since. Her paintings are stunning in their clarity and presence — deeply grounded in landscape, yet full of atmosphere, light, and feeling. There’s a quiet confidence in the way she builds each scene, allowing space, colour, and form to do the speaking. The result is work that feels both expansive and intimate, drawing you right into the experience of place. Artist statement Kym’s work is an ongoing exploration of surface and colour. Marks are built up instinctively and colours chosen as works progress responding to what has come before. Although her work begins in landscape final paintings are abstracted by distance and memory.
