Tutor Sue Baker Kenton Etching is an intaglio printmaking process which uses resists and mordants to etch (cut) lines onto metal printing plates. The plates and mordants vary and all bring different qualities to the process of etching. Copper has been widely used since the 1600s starting with the early explorations into the process by Rembrandt and Hercules Seghers. This one day session, that explores some of copper's unique qualities, adds another string to the bow of experienced etchers and is a great refresher or introduction for those beginning to work with etching. About the Tutor Sue Baker Kenton is a visual artist whose work is rooted in observational drawing. Her images evolve over time in a considered and reflective way, echoed by the processes in which they are rendered: primarily etching and lithography. Last year she completed residencies in France and Art Print Residence in Barcelona. In 2018 she will revisit both residencies to develop work for two exhibitions in Reims in 2019. Important collections include the V&A (Victoria and Albert Museum) Print Collection. www.ghosted.co.uk Sue is the specialist printmaking tutor for the UAL Foundation Diploma in Art and Design and printmaking co-ordinator at City Lit.
