John Ruskin [1819-1900] wrote prolifically in the second half of the 19th century in a variety of literary forms and styles on a variety of topics, including art history and art cr iticism (both influencing and championing the Pre-Raphaelites for example), early environmentalism, and social and political ideas. He was extremely popular until WW1, and has gained attention again since the environmental movement that swelled in the 1970's. This book was originally published in 1890. Still printed today, this revised edition was copyrighted in 1901. It's a selection created for students of late 19th and early 20th century, with an extensive introduction and several pages of endnotes.
