The biggest features of the M80 are its newly designed low-mass voice coil, ultra-thin Mylar diaphragm, and custom output transformer manufactured by AMI/TAB-Funkenwerk. This newly designed diaphragm converts signals to electrical signals with high efficiency without changing the tone color that was lost with previous heavy diaphragms and voice coils, and the AMI/TAB-Funkenwerk output transformer produces a sound with the distinctive warmth and presence of good old analog audio. The proximity effect in the low frequencies is well controlled, making this an excellent microphone for recording not only vocals but also drums and bass. *The inner diameter of the microphone holder's screw socket is 5/8 inches.
