Because it is absorbent, it may discolor to gray or develop spots when immersed in water. However, please rest assured that it will return to its original state once it is completely dry. ・When serving oily or dark liquids, quickly soak it in water or hot water to moisten it before use to prevent stains. Product Characteristics/Handling Precautions ・Boiling it in rice water or similar will help prevent stains, but please note that the color may change until it is completely dry. ・After use, dry it thoroughly before storing. This may cause mold and stains. ・Although the bottom has been treated, please use a mat or similar to prevent this. ・Because it is handmade, each piece will have slight variations in color, shape, size, thickness, and other characteristics. ・Pinholes and variations in pattern and color may be visible. - With use, color and texture may change over time, and crazing (cracks in the surface glaze) may occur. - Prices may be revised or adjusted by the artist or kiln. Things to Know Before Purchasing The unique character of each piece of pottery is created by features not found in mass-produced items, such as spots, fading, uneven glaze, shading, and shape variations. Handmade pottery is not perfectly uniform; each piece has slight variations in color, size, and shape, and there are no two pieces that are exactly alike. This is the charm of handmade pottery. These are also the unique characteristics of handmade pottery, so enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime encounter. [Individual Differences] Since each piece is handmade, there may be individual differences in shape, size, thickness, etc. [Color Variations/Firing Variations] Since the glaze is applied by hand, the application may not be uniform. During firing, temperatures vary depending on the location in the kiln, resulting in uneven firing. [Other Notes] 〇 Products that have passed inspection by the kiln or artist are inspected again before being delivered to customers. ■For more information, please click here. Furutani Seitosho Listing Page Furutani Seitosho - Koichi Furutani Born in 1979 in Shigaraki Town, Koka City, Shiga Prefecture Started making pottery at Furutani Seitosho in 2004 Specialty "Kohiki White Dishware" We work every day to create "Kohiki White Dishware" that enhances any dish and exudes elegance and warmth. We also pay particular attention to the clay we use, using our own clay for wheel-throwing and tatara-style molding. We mold the clay from red clay, apply white decorative mud, and then glaze and fire it. To ensure comfortable use and microwave-safety, no chemicals or liquid ceramic coatings are applied after firing. Instead, we repeat a double firing process called "honyaki" to make our tableware even more durable and of a quality that can be used safely in everyday life. Our Thoughts on Tableware "The most important time in daily life" It's the time when the family gathers together to eat meals and relax over tea or coffee. We strive to create tableware that gently complements people's lives and enriches such moments. "Konohiki no Shiro" is a gentle, expressive white. It is a simple white that enhances any dish and can be used every day. Furthermore, the gentle, rustic pottery flavor that peeks out from beneath the surface of the tableware adds a great deal of depth to the piece. We would be extremely happy if you could enjoy the warmth of our Japanese tableware in your daily life. Photos from the Artist From a Journey of Pottery Tours
