The Melbourne Town Hall in 1910. This image is a marvellous street view, looking down on the intersection of Collins and Swanston Street, showing the various modes of transport, th
e fashions and some of the lost gems of Melbourne's architecture. The building on the right is the Victoria Building, constructed in 1888, demolished in the late 1960s (along with some other fine buildings along Swanston Street) to make way for the City Square. The beautiful building on the far left was the original T&G Life Assurance Building (built 1888, demolished 1974), designed by Alfred Dunn. All text © HotPress Notes from the State Library tell us that this is a "An aerial view of the Town Hall from a building in Swanston Street near the intersection with Collins Street. It shows cable trams in both streets, and a number of hansom cabs and carriages. The building on the corner of Collins Street, later removed to make way for the City Square, is visible in the right foreground." Photograph attributed to Sears' Studios.
