The distinct "Clamshell" case was patented in 1936 by Schmitz Freres & Co., and acquired by Gallet in 1937. It consists of a two-part case, one part fitted over a specialized flared crystal, and then the second component. The caseback sports a clear sticker, possibly from an old service, but the case itself has kept its impressive thickness. This applies to the lugs as well, which remain substantial. There is some light oxidation underneath the minute counter hand, and there is some light aging to the central part of the dial (which is double Swiss signed); overall this is consistent with the age of this Gallet. The smooth bezel in particular shows virtually no scratches.
