This plate is used to maintain the torque on the through bolts when a cylinder is removed for maintenance. This torque helps ensure that the bearings do not shift when the cranksha ft is turned. The rubber grommet in the center hole is large enough for the connecting rod to pass through. This also protects the case and the connecting rod from contacting each other. Our plates are manufactured from high-carbon steel and heat treated. When the clamping force of the hold-down hardware is utilized, it can deform a non-heat treated torque plate. Torque used should be less than the final engine assembly torque to avoid using up a "crush cycle" on the bearings.
